LACERS Board Elects Cynthia M. Ruiz as President


Cynthia M. RuizCynthia M. Ruiz has been elected President of the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System’s (LACERS) seven-member Board of Administration.  The election was held at the April 24th board meeting at LACERS’ headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.  She will oversee LACERS’ $17.1 billion trust fund.

"I am humbled and honored to be elected to serve as the President of the LACERS Board. Being the first Latina in this position comes with much responsibility and as a leader I will always act with integrity," said Ms. Ruiz.

As a trustee at LACERS, Ms. Ruiz was appointed to the Board in 2015 by Mayor Garcetti.  As a LACERS Commissioner, she serves on the Audit, Benefits Administration, and Cybersecurity Committees. 

Ms. Ruiz is an Executive Coach, Professor, Author, Inspirational Speaker, and Leadership expert.  Her experience at the City of Los Angeles includes serving as President of the Board of Public Works where she had direct oversight of 5,000 employees and just under a billion dollar per year budget.  She has worked as an Executive at the Port of Los Angeles and has successfully run her own business for many years.

Hispanic Lifestyle named her a “2018 Latina of Influence.” She has received the prestigious Hollywood Chamber “Women of Distinction Award,” the HOPE “Ray of Hope Award,” and the Weingart “Women Building LA Award.” Twice the California Apparel News has listed her on their renowned List of Influential People and LA Weekly showcased her in their people edition.

As a Professor, she received the “Presidents Award” from the University of West Los Angeles for her work as an outstanding Professor. Cynthia teaches leadership at a graduate level in the School of Business.
